Old Crafts

It's been awhile since I've blogged and I've been meaning to for awhile. I was only able to capture a few out of many crafty moments from my summer. Here are some shorts I made:

I am quite bleach obsessed. Step one: dip in bleach. Step two: distress. Step three: place in dryer and TA DA! New shorts!

This is my creation out of an old shirt:

Step one: cut of sleeves, inch off of bottom, and collar. Step two: Shred shirt. Start from the bottom and shred upward, naturally it will decrease and create a triangle look. Choose your design. (In order to shred, cut a slit and pull at thread. It is often easier using your nails. The thread should pull away.)

In Memory of My Nine Year Old Fish

Lexi's 9 year old fish died today....
But we got crafty this weekend.

Here are pictures of what we did this weekend.
Zana's dip bleached flannel
$3 (plain flannel) at Salvation Army
(Lexi's old shirt, bleached top and bottom)

The sun is shining, it's a brand new day, and I'm alive.
(sleeves cut, bleached, sides ripped)

Lexi's bleached flannel. You never
know what color it'll end up being!!!!

I (Lexi) started a new nickname for Alex. We are now going to call her Zana.

BLEACH.

I'm shorts obsessed. Once again, I saw shorts like these on tumblr a long time ago and finally got around to making my version of them.

1) Bleach shorts. 2 parts water, 1 part bleach. Put in plastic container and dip parts or all of shorts (matters what results you want) in container for about thirty minutes.
Don't forget to wear gloves!
2) Take out and rinse thoroughly in sink or shower. Dispose of bleach/water properly (NOT IN GRASS!)
3) Set shorts out to dry.

4) Wash alone in washing machine. Dry.
5) Leave as is or decorate it, paint it, make it your own!!!! (Unlike me)

I wore mine to school today! Have fun and be creative.

Dippidy doo DYE

Alex, Cassie, and I were feeling crafty the other day, so we decided to dip dye!!! First you buy shorts (what's new?!) and clothing dye.  We got yellow, green, fuchsia, and purple dye.

  1. Set up empty tubs outdoors because the dye will stain.
  2. Alex and I first dyed the shorts (whole thing) yellow by submerging them in a full tub of dye. Cassie only dipped the bottom part in yellow, and as you will see, you get different results! It also matters on how light your shorts may be. If they are dark, you might want to consider bleaching them.

3. The next part is up to you. What we did, was fold the jeans in half and submerge only part of the jeans in the green dye. The green dye was not too noticeable.
Alex with the green and yellow dye!
4. Repeat step 3 with however many colors you want and have. Between each dye, you have to let it dry a little in the sun. (Instructions will be on dye bottles).
In the top tub, we are dipping the shorts in
fuchsia, and in the bottom, we are
dipping the shorts in purple.
5. Let the shorts dry. We laid them out for 24 hours, rinsed them, put them in the washing machine, and then into the dryer. Here is a picture of the shorts drying in the sun, before the purple stage.
Top Alex's, right Cassie's, left mine!

Now that I shared out little secrets, go and try it! Beware though, it takes time and patience. We doubted the shorts during the yellow phase, but now love them to death!!

fringe fringe fringe!

As you will probably see, I love making shorts. Why? Because the design is totally in your control. I guess that's what it's like with any clothing item you create, but I especially love shorts!

Here is my latest creation: FRINGE ((:

step one- Buy high wasted jeans from a local (yes, local, to help out your community!) thrift store. I chose these pink corduroy pants.

step two- Cut them into shorts at any length you prefer.

step three- Buy fringe (Any color, any length, purely up to you. That is the beauty about this!!)

step four- Sew the fringe along the edge of your pockets. I did two layers to make the fringe look longer.

step five- Decorate the shorts with any sort of trinkets! In my case, random buttons I had lying around.

TA-DAH!!!!

Roxie

I know this is completely unrelated, but I couldn't help but share a video from my best friend's senior performance! She did a few songs by Adele and Lady Gaga, but her Roxie performance is definitely one of my favorites. Hope you enjoy :)
